Indian Railways receives applications from 15 private firms for passenger train operations project worth Rs 30,000 crore

Indian Railways in the leadership of Piyush Goyal has received 120 applications for the 12 clusters from 15 applicant firms in response to the Request for Qualification for PPP in passenger train operations in the country. The Railway Ministry had invited Request for Qualifications for calling private participation in the operation of passenger train services over 12 Clusters comprising 140 Origin Destination pair of routes through the induction of 151 modern trains to increase high-quality trains operated on the railway network. This is the firs move by the government for attracting private investment for running Passenger Trains over the Indian Railways. The project is expected to bring private sector investment of around Rs 30,000 crore.
