‘SMART’ defence systems

On 5^th of October, 2020, DRDO tested the SMART or Supersonic Missile Assisted Release of Torpedois a sophisticated missile system. It is an anti-submarine defence system that has capabilities beyond conventional torpedoes. The system successfully met requirements of altitude, nosecone release and velocity reduction mechanism, which would enhance its capabilities underwater. This is a great development, and the technology shall be deployed with the Indian Navy for securing Indian Ocean, and shall help cut through the Chinese ‘String of Pearls’strategyin the Indian Oceans.
