Indian Prime Minister presents his Japanese counterpart with unique traditional products from Gujarat, UP and Rajasthan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi briefed Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on two specially made bowls and stone muds during his visit to Japan at the October 28th India-Japan Summit. Made from pink quartz and yellow stone from Rajasthan, the bowls were crafted by the master craftsman Shabbirhusen Ibrahimbhai Shaikh from the Gumbat region of Khambhat, renowned for its practice of stone craftsmanship for generations and who is also a hub of exports of stone products. The peculiarity of this craft is that the shape of the product is extracted from a block of stone, then shaped and refined using basic hand tools, usually without turning the machine.
